A contract is an agreement you can break while a covenant is a pledge or perpetual promise.

A contract is invalid when one of the involved parties violates it. On the other hand, a covenant remains intact even if one of the parties breach it.

eg
You engage a painter for your house
His duty – paint walls
Your duty – pay him and also vacate the room in time for him to paint

If you don’t pay or vacate, He can’t paint. Hence Contract is broken
If he does paint, You won’t pay. Hence Contract is broken
